Headley’s Passport Confirms Nine Visits to India
Suspected Lashkar terrorist David Coleman Headley’s passport has confirmed his multiple visits to India.
According to details of his US passport, he made nine visits to India. He had come to New Delhi on March 6, 2009, where he stayed in two hotels, at Hotel Holiday International on day one and then at Hotel Anand next two days. Hotel staff was quoted as saying that he used to stay indoors.
While checking out, Headley, who is also supposed to carry a Pakistani passport, claimed that he was leaving for Rajasthan.
Reports said that during his Mumbai visit, he had checked into the Taj and The Oberoi, which was later attacked on 26/11.
Yesterday, the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) registered a case against him for engineering attacks in India. The government had said that it would also press for his extradition from the US.
His passport shows that he had visited several other countries including the United Arag of Emirates (UAE) and Pakistan in 2007.
The passport clearly shows that it was issued by the US government on July 15, 2007 and is valid till July 17, 2012 from Chicago.
With a FBI team – the principle investigators of the case – scheduled to arrive in India next week, investigators here are expected to present the evidence collected so as to doubly ensure Headley’s conviction.
There are also reports that Indian officials will visit the US in January just before the filing of chargesheet against Headley and co-conspirator Tahawwur Rana.
Headley, 49 was arrested last month for allegedly hatching a conspiracy with LeT to carry out strikes inside and outside the US. Investigators have said he was also planning a major terror strike in India at LeT’s behest.
