GJM Suspends Indefinite Strike
The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) on Monday suspended the indefinite strike in the Darjeeling hills till August 17. Media sources say the decision to call off the strike was taken to create a ‘cordial atmosphere’ ahead of the tripartite talks scheduled to take place in New Delhi on August 11.
GJM leaders say the decision to suspend the strike was taken by morcha president Bimal Gurung, following requests from the central and state governments.
They, however, did not negate possibilities of resuming the strike and said further decisions on the matter would be based on the outcome of the tripartite parleys.
