Games’ Adverts Foul, Says EC
Terming the release of full page Commonwealth Games advertisements, in prominent dailies, a clear violation of the model code of conduct, the Election Commission on Saturday directed the Delhi government to recover costs for the advertisements from officials who released them.
The EC shot off a strongly worded letter to the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, and Chief Secretary Delhi Government, seeking names of those that authorised the release.
“The total cost of the advertisements should be recovered from personal accounts of officers and persons responsible for the release of the advertisements,” said the EC communication.
“This is a clear violation of the model code of conduct which prohibits publication of the achievements of the governments at the cost of the public exchequer,” said the letter while seeking a compliance report by Monday.
