Fresh Avalanche in Kashmir, One More Killed
A day after 17 army men were killed in an avalanche in Kashmir Valley, a fresh avalanche hit the region killing one jawan in Kupwara district, said media reports.
According to reports, nearly 14 army men were feared trapped as a fresh avalanche hit Tangdhar, located some 145 kms from Srinagar, at around 0345 hrs.
All the 14 jawans were extricated from the deep snow but one of them died later, said reports.
Yesterday, the popular ski resort of Gulmarg was hit by a massive avalanche in which 17 people were killed and an equal number injured when the troops were in the midst of a winter warfare training on steep slopes about 70km from Srinagar.
The avalanche came hurtling down on the 60-strong combat troops as they were scaling the icy walls of high-altitude Khilanmarg peak in near zero visibility.
