Four CRPF Troopers Killed in Maoist Attack at Lalgarh

As many as four CRPF personnel have been killed and two wounded when Naxals triggered an IED blast at Lalgarh in West Bengal on the second day of their 48-hour shutdown in five states, said media reports.

The explosion followed Union Home Minister P Chidambaram’s call yesterday to the Naxals to abjure violence and come for talks.

According to reports, the CRPF troopers had come out of their camp at Goaltore market to patrol close-by villages on foot when the explosion occurred at Ramgarh in Lalgarh police station area in West Midnapore district at 1130 hrs.

“Four CRPF jawans and two were injured in an IED blast set off by Naxals,” M Nageswar Rao, CRPF Inspector General of Police, Eastern Sector was quoted as saying.

The four personnel killed in the blast included three constables besides the driver of the SUV in which they were travelling, reports said.

The vehicle was badly damaged in the explosion.

The blast left a five-feet-deep crater on the road.
