Following Communal Clashes, Hyderabad Still Tense

Tension still persists in Hyderabad today, a day after communal clashes took place in sensitive old part of the city and places of worship attacked in many areas, reported IANS.

Extra security forces, including paramilitary forces, were rushed to the city to control the situation following violence on Saturday in which 60 people were injured, report said.

According to report, incidents of stabbing, arson, stone-pelting, attacks on places of worship, shops and vehicles were reported from more than a dozen areas past Sunday midnight.

For bringing the situation under control, police opened fire in the air, resorted to tear gas shells and cane-charge, report said.

Home Minister P Sabita Indra Reddy, who paid a visit to the old city in the morning, told the state assembly that the situation was now under control, report said.

While Director General of Police Girish Kumar, who visited the troubled areas late Sunday, said that adequate forces were being deployed to bring the situation under control.

Police have imposed prohibitory orders under section 144 of the criminal procedure code banning assembly of five or more people in the old city and some communally sensitive areas of the new city.
