Flood Relief: US Announces $100,000 Aid
The US on Thursday announced a $100,000 aid package for the relief and rehabilitation of victims ravaged by the recent floods in parts of southern and western India.
Announcing the aid, US ambassador to India Timothy J Roemer termed the losses caused by the floods as ‘devastating’.
‘Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families during this time of great loss and tragedy,’ he said.
Heavy rains have flooded many parts of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra. Over 250 people have been killed and millions left homeless by the calamity.
The aid comes at a time when relief and rescue workers, though relieved by the receding waters are inundated by rising concerns over disease outbreak in the flood affected areas.
