Fernandes Files Nomination for RS By Poll
Full Circle: Former Defence Minister, George Fernandes, flanked by Janata Dal-United (JD-U) leaders, on Thursday filed nomination as party candidate for a Rajya Sabha by-election from Bihar.
Fernandes (79) was accompanied by JD-U leaders and party workers when he filed his papers.
The veteran politician will contest the seat occupied by JD-U national president Sharad Yadav before his election to Lok Sabha from Madhepura in April-May this year.
“I simply asked George Fernandes whether he was keen to go to Rajya Sabha, he said yes and I invited him here to file his papers,” said Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who has faced accusations of engineering Fernandes’ defeat in the parliamentary polls.
Kumar, however, said he had “no differences” with the senior leader.
Fernandes contested the Muzaffarpur LS segment as an independent after the JD-U leadership denied him a poll ticket citing his “advancing years and failing health”.
