Families of Indians on Death Row in UAE Seek Govt Help

Families of Indians who have been sentenced to death by a Sharia court in Sharjah has sought help from Indian government, said media reports.

Families of Kuldeep Singh and Ravinder Singh, who are among 17 convicts and hail from Punjab, said that they are innocent, reports said.

They want the Indian government to intervene and help them get their sons back, said reports.

The Sharjah court has awarded the death sentence based on DNA reports and eyewitness accounts.

All the 17 Indians were found guilty of killing a Pakistani national and injuring three others in Sharjah in January last year in a scuffle over illegal liquor.

Foreign minister S M Krishna has promised to give the Indians accused consular assistance and other ways to appeal in higher court.
