Eight Killed, 33 Wounded in Pune’s German Bakery Bombing

At least eight people were killed and 33 others wounded in a bomb attack on a restaurant in Pune, say reports attributing the information to officials.

The explosion tore through the German Bakery, which is popular with tourists, in Koregaon Park not far from the Osho Ashram.

While the nationalities of the dead are not known. At least four foreigners are among the injured.

The explosion took place at around 1900 hours when the restaurant was packed with weekend diners.

“We heard a big noise and we all rushed out. The impact was so much that there were tiny body parts everywhere,” Vinod Dhale, who works at the restaurant, was quoted as saying by Reuters.

Initial reports had believed the explosion to have been caused by a gas cylinder.

The Pune Anti-Terrorist Squad and the Bomb Disposal Squad have also rushed to scene of the tragedy, while a team of the Mumbai ATS is also going to Pune, said IANS.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said the police was investigating and relief and rescue efforts are in full swing, it added.
