Efforts Underway for Single National Level Entrance Test in 2013: Sibal

Union Human Resources Development Minister Kapil Sibal has said that efforts are being made to hold a single national-level entrance test for students to get admission into engineering, medical and commerce courses from 2013, said media reports.

“Efforts will be put to hold an All-India national test in Science and commerce from 2013. This will smoothen the admission process into engineering, medical, economics and commerce courses,” Sibal was quoted as saying.

The minister made the remarks while addressing a meeting of the Council of School Board of Education (COBSE) in New Delhi.

Justifying the move, Sibal said that it would lessen burden on students who appear in multiple-tests for admission into these courses, said reports.

The minister said that the all-India level test would be on pattern of SIT in the US, reports said.

CBSE has prepared a core-curriculum for senior secondary classes in science and mathematics subjects, said reports.

“There is 90 per cent census among the school boards on the core-curriculum prepared on science and mathematics,” Sibal was quoted as saying.

For commerce, a similar curriculum would be prepared in three months, said reports.

In August last year, Sibal had pitched for a uniform core curriculum for Mathematics and Science for all school boards, citing that it would pave the way for a common entrance exam for admission to professional courses.
