EC Shunts Pilibhit DM, SP
The Election Commission on Wednesday ordered the transfers of Pilibhit District Magistrate and Police Superintendent for failing to initiate immediate action against BJP parliamentary hopeful Varun Gandhi for his alleged communal remarks.
The two officials, DM Mahendra Prasad Agarwal, and the Superintendent of Police, R.K. Chaturvedi, were shunted out of Pilibhit on charges of dereliction of duty.
They will now serve on non election related posts, in keeping with tradition the DM was also the District Election Officer by default.
No replacements were named till late on Wednesday.
The transfer orders come close on the heels of the suspension orders the EC issued to ADM SS Kamaal, and ASP Saurav Kush, on Tuesday.
The EC also served show cause notices to BJP State president Ramapati Ram Tripathi and Varun Gandhi, asking them to clarify as to why the provisions of the model code of conduct were violated.
