Delhi HC Permits Vikas Yadav to Attend Sister’s Wedding

The Delhi High Court, though it declined to grant interim bail to Vikas Yadav, who is undergoing life imprisonment in the Nitish Katara murder case, has given him permission to attend sister’s marriage under judicial custody.

A bench comprising Justice Anil Kumar and Justice Vipin Sanghi permitted Vikas Yadav, son of controversial UP politician DP Yadav, to take part in his sister’s marriage ceremony on November 1 from 5 pm till his sister leave for her husban’s house next morning.

The bench, giving the permission, instructed police to accompany the convict in plain clothes during the ceremony.

It may be mentioned that Vikas, on the ground of attending the function and performing the rituals as the bride’s elder brother, has sought for three months interim bail.

On May 28 last year, Vikas and his cousin Vishal were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for killing Nitish Katara, a son of an IAS officer, in 2002 as they opposed Katara’s intimacy with Bharati.

Their appeal against the trial court verdict is pending before the High Court.

Vikas has also been convicted in ramp model Jessica Lal murder case and sentenced to four years of imprisonment by the Delhi High Court for destruction of evidence.

Vikas and his cousin Vishal killed Katara on the intervening night of February 17-18, 2002, after kidnapping him from a marriage party in Ghaziabad.
