Death Toll in Baramulla Firing Reaches 4; CRPF to be Pulled Out

With another boy Amir Rashid succumbing to his injuries at Soura hospital, the death toll in Baramulla has now reached four. The case has already been lodged against the CRPF personnel who had opened fire at Khanpora late on Tuesday night killing a 24 year old youth.

After the firing incidence, J&K government took a decision to on late Tuesday night to withdraw CRPF from Baramulla town and deploy Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police (JKAP).

In the fresh protest triggered by the killing of two youths, thousands of people took to streets in old town and shouted pro freedom slogan. They also ambushed with the police at Cement Bridge. To dispel them, police fired tear gas shells.

Blaming CRPF and police for opening fire unabatedly, people are insisting on a high level inquiry into the killing of four youths.

In the meantime, curfew continues in the town that has been tense since Sunday evening when a women Hasina Akthar resident of Sheeri village alleged that Police had misbehaved with her. The brother of lady who blamed police for misbehaviour was involved in kidnapping of a minor girl.

However, situation took an ugly turn on Sunday morning when Police and CRPF opened fire on protestors at two places in the town killing two teenaged boys. Another youth was killed on Tuesday evening when the CRPF opened fire without any provocation.

Government has already ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incidents of firing and allegation of the women. Additional Deputy Commissioner Baramulla has been asked to his submit report with ten days.
