CWC Meets, Discusses Inflation, Telangana
With inflation and Telangana statehood confronting government, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) on Friday assessed the situation arising out of the two issues, reported NDTV.
The committee, in a meeting chaired by Congress chairperson Sonia Gandhi, discussed ways and means to handle the situation at a time when prices of food commodities were alarmingly high, said report citing party sources.
Besides Sonia Gandhi, PM Manmohan Singh, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Defence Minister AK Antony, Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and party general secretaries were present in the meeting in which various other issues were also discussed, said report.
The meeting held discussions the vital issue a day ahead of the Chief Ministers Conference convened by the Prime Minister on inflation and at a time when consultations are on for the Union budget to be presented later this month.
Rises in food prices has resulted in a veiled attack on Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar in recent months with Congress leaders saying that not enough was being done on this front by the NCP leader.
