Country’s Longest Fly-over Inaugurated in Hyderabad

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosiah inaugurated the country’s longest fly-over flyover – PV Narasimha Rao Elevated Expressway – in Hyderabad on Monday.

The 11.6-km elevated expressway, built at a cost of Rs 439 crore, connects Mehdipatnam in the city to Aramgarh Junction on the National Highway (NH7) leading to the Hyderabad International Airport at Shamshabad.

While some work relating to the fly-over is still pending, the expressway is sure to smoothen the ride to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, some 30 km from the city.

The expressway, built by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), will cut travel time to the airport by 30-40 minutes, say officials.

The project, launched in 2005, was scheduled to be inaugurated on Oct 2 but the opening was put off in view of the death of chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, who had laid the foundation stone for the project.
