Congress Decides to Step Protests even as Joshi Granted Interim Bail

The Congress party has decided to intensify its protests against ransacking of UPCC chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi’s residence even as she was granted an interim bail on Saturday. In the meanwhile, The names of BSP MLA Jitendra Singh and local party leader Imtizar Abdi have been added in the FIR filed in connection with the arson at the house of UPCC chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi in Lucknow.

“The party has decided to intensify its ongoing stir and launch jail bharo during which the Congress workers will court arrest across the state,” UPCC general secretary Subodh Srivastava said.

He said that the party agitation would continue till BSP leaders and workers including MLA Jitendra Singh alias Babloo and Intizaar Ahmad Abdi are arrested.

“These leaders were responsible for attack and arsoning at UPCC chief’s house and that they should be arrested is our main demand,” Srivastava said.

Later in the day, on the basis of complaints of Srivastava, the names of the two leaders were added in the FIR filed in connection with the arson at Joshi’s house.

Singh is MLA from Bikapur assembly seat in Faizabad and Bobby is former president of Shia Degree College Lucknow. Earlier, the FIR had been filed against unidentified persons.

In the meanwhile, Moradabad court on Saturday granted interim bail to Joshi. She was granted bail on a surety of Rs 30,000.

Joshi was arrested on Wednesday for a speech against Mayawati that the chief minister said was insulting to her as a woman and a Dalit.

Joshi was charged under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
