Cong Set to Come Back to Power in Maha, Haryana & Arunachal Pradesh

The congress party looks set to regain power in Maharashtra for a third consecutive term, to win Arunachal Pradesh with a majority and to emerge as the single largest party in Haryana with no so-impressive performance.

The Congress-NCP combine won 4 seats and was leading in 134 constituencies in the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly. The combine won 140 seats last time and is expected to finish up with similar tally this time also and will be able to easily form government with the support of rebels of both the parties and independents.

Of the two, congress bagged one seat and was leading in 75 others, while the NCP has won three and was ahead in 50 others.

Shiv Sena-BJP combine, affectedly most adversely by MNS, was leading in 84 seats, far behind its 2004 tally of 116 seats. Shiv Sena won 2 seats and was ahead in 41 seats, while BJP bagged one seat and was leading in 46 seats.

However, Haryana where congress party won 9 out of 10 seats in Lok Sabha elections and where assembly elections have bee advanced by over seven months seems to be throwing a bit surprising result with the Congresss winning 9 sears and leading in 32 in the 90-member assembly. It may have to look for support from rebels and independents who were ahead in 9 seats.

The Congress, which had won 67 seats in the 2005 elections, was apparently over-confident as reflected by an impressive show by Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) which has won 6 and was leading in 23 others. The INLD had 9 seats in the previous assembly.

The BJP was ahead in 4 seats, BSP in two and Bhajan Lal-led Haryana Janhit Congress in five. ‘Others’ accounted for eight leads and one win.

In Arunachal Pradesh, Congress is heading for a win with victories in 13 seats and leads in 10 others in the 60-member assembly. In outgoing assembly, it had 34 seats.

The Trinammol Congress won two seats and was leading in one while the NCP was ahead in one and won one. BJP was ahead in one seat.
