Cong MLAs from Telangana Try to Disrupt Guv Speech in Jt Session

Congress MLAs from Telangana region on Monday tried to disrupt the address of Andhra Pradesh Governor ESL Narasimhan to the joint session of state legislature on the first day of budget session, reported IANS.

The demand for a separate Telangana state has created a rift among party MLAs, though party is in power in the state.

Congress legislators supporting formation of Telangana state shouted slogan ‘Jai Telangana’ till the end of governor’s 45-minute speech and later walked out of the assembly, said report.

TDP MLAs from Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra regions – who have been opposing bifurcation of the state – countered them with slogans of ‘Samakhiya Andhra’ or unified Andhra, said report.

However, TDP legislators from Telangana region, who have rejected the terms of reference of Srikrishna committee for being unfavourable to demand of separate Telangana, stayed away from the session, said report.
