Cong-JD(S) Conspiring to Topple Karnataka Govt: BJP

A day after JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy met Congress president Sonia Gandhi at her 10 Janpath residence in New Delhi, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday claimed that the two parties were conspiring to topple the Karnataka state government.

“The single point agenda of Congress and JD(S) is to topple the state government by joining hands after election results,” alleged Karnataka JP state unit chief DV Sadananda Gowda.

He said that former chief minister Kumaraswamy’s meeting with Gandhi substantiated “the conspiracy.”

Though the meeting came amid a scramble for allies ahead of the May 16 declaration of Lok Sabha poll results, Sadananda Gowda questioned the timing of the meeting.

“Where was the necessity for Kumaraswamy to meet Sonia Gandhi at this juncture?” he asked.

He further said that Kumaraswamy was neither a member of the ruling party nor the leader of the Opposition to discuss state issues with the Congress president.

He claimed that both Congress and JD(S) were “indulging in a secret alliance” since the declaration of LS polls and demanded that Kumaraswamy come clean on the details of his meeting with Gandhi.

Kumaraswamy – son of former prime minister HD Deve Gowda – met Gandhi on Tuesday, triggering speculations of his party exploring possibilities of discarding the Third Front and joining the Congress-led alliance.

After the meeting Kumaraswamy – who had earlier been vary of joining the Left-led Third Front – said that he met Gandhi to discuss Karnataka politics.
