Chief Ministers Conference Tomorrow
With no respite in inflation of food commodities, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is convening a conference of chief ministers tomorrow to chalk out strategy to check rising prices, report PTI.
Earlier in the day, Congress Working Committee (CWC) held a meeting and discussed price rise issue.
In the meeting, party members are believed to have expressed concern over surging inflation and suggested that government should take steps to contain it, said report.
The prime minister had discussed the issue earlier in the week with the state chief secretaries and impressed upon them the need to improve public distribution system and increase farm productivity.
Report said that in the conference, Singh would discussion food price situation and review implementation of the Essential Commodities Act to check hoarding of food items.
He is also expected to ask states to fully utilise their allocations of cereals under the PDS as well as open market sale scheme, said report.
