Chappal Flies Again, Drops Short of Yeddy

Latest on the flying footwear front was reported from Karnataka on Tuesday with a “drunk vagabond” targeting Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa while addressing a poll meeting in in Channarayapatna in Hassan district of the state.

Though, the chappal fell far from the dais, the police immediately arrested the attacker and slapped him with assailt charges.

“His (the slipper thrower’s) name is Chandrashekar and he is aged about 34 years. He is a vagabond and appeared drunk,” N. Kumar, a local police official, was quoted as saying by correspondents.

Chandrashekhar has been charged with assault or criminal force with intent to dishonour, under provisions of section 355, 504 and 506 of Indian Penal Code.

The chappal thrower now faces prospects of imprisonment of up to two years, which could be topped up with a fine.

Since elections were announced in the country, the flying footwear has stung the politicians in the country, as the sweat soaked stinkers have already targeted Home Minister P Chidambaram, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, NDA prime ministerial hopeful LK Advani, Congress parliamentarian Naveen Jindal and now Yeddyurappa.
