CBI Formally Seeks Withdrawal of Cases against Quattrocchi

A few days after Centre taking the decision, the CBI has formally sought withdrawal of all cases against Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi in the multi-crore gun deal scam.

Moving an application under section in the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja under Section 321 of CrPC, the CBI stated that Quattrocchi’s name should be removed from the trial that has been going on for over 19 years.

The hearing in the case will take place on October 9 to decide on withdrawal of Quattrocchi’s name from the case.

PP Malhotra made it clear to the court that the CBI is not submitting any closure report in the case but it moving an application under Section 321 of the CrPC.

In the application, the CBI said that any case against Quattrocchi is unjustified for there is no evidence against him.

It may be mentioned that the city court was hearing the matter after Quattrocchi’s name was withdrawn from the list of wanted persons by CBI last year.

Quattrocchi, the lone prominent surviving suspect in the case, was known to be close to the family of late Rajiv Gandhi who was prime minister in 1987 when the Bofors bribery scandal broke.
