CBI Files Chargeseet in Nimabalkar Killing

The CBI on Thursday filed a 5000 page chargesheet against suspended NCP leader Padamsinh Patil and others, in connection with the murder of Congress leader Pawanraje Nimbalkar and his driver in 2006.

The chargesheet, filed before a Panvel court, identified Patil as the prime accused in the conspiracy to eliminate Nimbalkar who he feared was posing a threat to his survival in politics.

The document named Satish Mandade, Mohan Shukla, Dinesh Tiwari, Parasmal Jain, Kailash Yadav and Pintu Singh and the absconding Chotu Pandey as the other accused in the case.

Nimabalkar and his driver were shot dead on June 3, 2006, at Kalamboli in Navi Mumbai. Tiwari, Singh and Pandey had allegedly shot dead the duo, claimd the CBI while adding that Patil had paid ‘supari’ (contract killing) of Rs 30 lakh to other accused to eliminate the victim.

The charge sheet includes statements of 181 witnesses and over 200 documents as evidence against Patil and six other arrested accused.

The accused have been booked under Sections 120-b (conspiracy) and 302 (double murder) of IPC and Sections 3, 25 and 27 of Arms Act.
