Bypassing Guv, Mayawati to Recruit Force for Guarding Memorials

Bypassing the Governor, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati is going to recruit a special force of 1,200 ex-armymen for safeguarding the memorials of Dalit icons in the state, said media reports.

The constitution of new force will cost state exchequer Rs 9 crore even as the Supreme Court examines the crores of taxpayers’ money being spent on monuments of Dalit icons.

The recruitment of the force is scheduled to commence today though Governor is yet to approve the Bill for a special security force, reports said.

The chief minister aspires to finally have a 2-lakh-strong force which is estimated to cost Rs 67 crore, said reports.

Reports said that the UP government intends to approach the Adjutant General’s office that has records of ex-Armymen looking for reemployment with the state governments.

After obtaining these details, the state government will begin the recruitment process, reports said.
