Bodo Militants Kill Ten in Assam

At least ten people, two of them women, were allegedly killed by National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) militants in a late night incidence in Sonitpur district of Assam.

Following denial of their extortion demand, militants opened fire at residents indiscriminately, said media reports.

In what is a co-incidence, the attack came a day after the militant organization observed its 23rd raising day in which they had issued a threat to the security forces.

Surender Kumar, Superintendent of Police, said that NDFB insurgents attacked Balisang village in Biswanath Chariali police station and fired at the locals having a mixed population of Assamese, Nepalese and Adivasis.

Of ten bodies found on the spot, seven were killed on the spot. Six of them were identified as Chhandra Chhetri, Hagro Telenga, Dulumani Bora, Goma Devi, Thurku Gor and Mohan Bahadur Chhetri.

Nine injured people were admitted to Biswanath Chariali hospital.

Kumar said that the situation was tense as the villagers were moving on roads with sharp weapons.

Special police picket has been set up in the village, he said.
