Bob Dhillon Readies to Rock Indian Realty

Are You Ready? If media reports are to be believed Canada’s biggest Indian landlord, Bob Dhillon, is getting ready to enter the Indian rental property markets in a big way.

Dhillon, with some 6,000 rental properties under his belt, arrives in the country with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper on Monday.

“Despite the current slowdown, I am sure the Indian real estate sector will take off in a big way. We are ready to come here next year,” the 43-year-old was quoted as saying.

A fast mover, Dhillon, started selling homes at 19, made his first million at 21 and today owns Mainstreet Equity – the first Indian-owned company to be listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

Operating mainly in Western Canada, Mainstreet buys and manages mid-market apartment blocks that cater mostly to young families.

Speaking ahead of his visit, Dhillon told agencies that the Indian real estate market spurred on by a huge population, a majority of which is young and waiting to move to urban centers, is a ‘realtor’s dream’.
