BMW Case: Defence Counsel RK Anand Tenders Unconditional Apology to SC

Eminent lawyer RK Anand, who was found responsible for trying to affect the course of justice in the notorious BMW hit-and-run case, has tendered an unconditional apology to the Supreme Court for all acts imputed to him, reported PTI.

According to report, Anand tendered his ‘sincere and unqualified unconditional apology’ for all acts ascribed to him in the sting operation carried out by a news channel in 2007 and as observed in the apex court judgement.

The counsel tender the apology following a show cause notice served the Supreme Court asking him as to why he should be punished, report said.

Anand petitioned that his punishment should not be increased under section 12 of Contempt of Court Act, said report.

On July 29, 2009, the apex court had upheld Anand’s conviction besides stripping of his senior advocate status for contempt of court for attempting to influence the course of justice in the hit-and-run case.

A three-judge bench of apex court had asked as to why the quantum of punishment for Anand, who was the defence lawyer in the BMW case, should not be enhanced.
