Both Houses of Parliament Adjourned Twice over MP’s Remarks

Parliamentary proceedings on Wednesday were disrupted over controversial remarks by two members resulting into two adjournments each of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha with a perturbed opposition insisting on an apology from them, reported PTI.

Congress MP Mani Shankar Aiyar has targeted BJP leader Arun Jaitley two days ago and Trinamool Congress MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay targeted CPM member from West Bengal in the backdrop of the motormen’s strike in Mumbai. The opposition found the the remarks of the two leaders very objectionable.

Soon after Lok Sabha met for the day, the Speaker Meira Kumar made her observations reprimanding Bandyopadhyay, report said.

“Those words and the manner in which they were said were quite unbecoming of a member of the House. I disapprove of such conduct. I hope no member will again give an occasion for the Chair to make such an observation,” Kumar was quoted as saying.

However, the turmoil continued even after Meira’s reprimanding Bandyopadhyay, report said.

The House was adjourned as AIADMK members stormed the well on the issue of 2G spectrum allocation.

In the Rajya Sabha, Deputy Chairman K Rahman Khan told Aiyar, “If a member is hurt by anybody there is nothing wrong in saying sorry.”

BJP is demanding apology from Aiyar whose maiden speech has created the controversy.

Both Aiyar and Bandyopadhyay were present in the respective Houses but gave no signs to make amends, report said.
