BJP Legislators to Boycott State Assembly Session

In defiance of party president’s order, and a show of strength, former Rajasthan chief minister and BJP leader Vasundhara Raje has convened a meeting of party MLAs in Jaipur, with 70 out of 78 party legislators attending it.

Raje, who has agreed to step down as Leader of Opposition in the state assembly, wants her own date for doing so. She also argues that she alone cannot be blamed for party’s drubbing in the Lok Sabha polls in which party strength was reduced to 4 seats as compared to last time’s 21.

In the meeting, the legislators decided to hold a dharna on the stairs of the Assembly and boycott the session, resuming tomorrow after a month-long recess, to protest the suspension of Gyandeo Ahuja, Bhawani Singh Rajawat and Hemsingh Bhadana from the House by the Speaker on July 28.

BJP Deputy Leader Ghanshyam Tiwari told media persons that the meeting did not take up any matter related the resignation of Raje.

“The issue of Raje’s resignation did not crop up during the meeting. She has chaired today’s meeting and will lead us in the assembly,” he said.
