BJP Leaders Meet to Discuss Shourie’s Remarks; Takes No Action

BJP leaders met in New Delhi to discuss Arun Shourie’s remarks against the party but no decision was taken against Shourie as was being speculated in the morning following such indications from leaders of saffron party.

Besides party president Rajnath Singh, the meeting was attended by party Vice President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, party general secretaries Vijay Goel and Vinay Katiyar.

Sources said that in the meeting, leaders reviewed the situation but obviously no decision about action against Shourie was taken.

Naqvi expressed confidence that the party would emerge stronger and that there was no revolt in the party.

The schism within the leadership of the largest right wing party of the country came out in the open after on Monday after Shourie, the BJP MP, described the party as a “kati patang”. In addition hel also asked the RSS to takeover BJP’s control and described Rajnath Singh as “Alice in Blunderland”.

“You want to be the Humpty Dumpty and also want everyone to believe what you write. Rajnath Singh is Alice in Blunderland,” said Shourie during a programme on a television channel.

On Tuesday morning, BJP termed Shourie’s remarks as “unfortunate”, with party sources indicating action him later in the day.

“Action against him (Shourie) is likely to be taken today (Tuesday). It may be on the same lines as the action against Jaswant Singh,” a senior party leader was quoted as saying by IANS.

Naqvi said: “The way he (Shourie) went out in public about the party’s internal issues is unfortunate.”

“If somebody has grievances, there are enough forums within party for their redressal. Talking about party leadership in public is indiscipline and party will take note of it,” Naqvi said.

Reacting to the episode, BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy on Monday said: “His nomination to Rajya Sabha was coming to an end. I am sure he wants action against himself. He wants to become a martyr.
