BJP Leaders Call on Guv, Withdraw Support from Soren Govt

The BJP has withdrawn support from JMM-led government in Jharkhand reducing it to a minority, said media reports.

Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Raghuvar Das handed over the letter withdrawing support from the Soren government to Governor MOH Farooq, reports said.

“I have handed over the letter, which contains the signature of all 18 BJP MLAs, withdrawing support,” Das was quoted as saying while talking to reporters at the Raj Bhavan.

The Governor said that he would ‘study it’, said reports.

After JMM chief backtracked on his promise of power-sharing on rotation basis and insisted that he would lead the government, the BJP yesterday decided to withdraw the support.

On April 28, Soren had voted in favour of UPA in cut motion in Lok Sabha causing the BJP to withdraw the support but as his son Hemant proposed support to a BJP-led government, the party put the decision on hold.

However, the JMM backtracked and demanded rotational power sharing with each party leading the government for 28 months.

The BJP consented to this and decided that Munda would be BJP’s chief minister as Shibu quit on May 25.

As the deadline for his stepping down approached, Soren made it clear on Friday that there was not going to quit.

This led the BJP to finally withdraw the support to his government.
