BJP Hints at Not Voting on Women Bill if Held without Debate
With Women’s Reservation Bill being disrupted by SP, BSP and RJD, the main Opposition BJP has flayed the government for ‘not having a strategy’ for its passage, hinting that it could not vote on the measure if there is no debate, reported PTI.
“The government should have a roadmap and strategy for passing such an important bill. We are not in favour of passing such a vital bill without a discussion. It (a discussion) is a requirement for a Constitutional Amendment as the basic structure of the Constitution will change,” Deputy Leader of BJP in Rajya Sabha S S Ahluwalia was quoted as saying.
Ahluwalia maintained that discussion and division of votes are required for a constitutional amendment unlike an ordinary legislation, said report.
