Bihar Identifies 26 Districts as Drought-Hit
With the state recording a 43 per cent deficit in rainfall this year, Bihar has declared twenty six of its 38 districts drought-hit, said agencies citing state government officials on Monday.
The decision was taken in a state cabinet meeting on Monday.
Earlier, at a meeting, convened by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, representatives of all political parties had assessed the situation and agreed to a proposal declaring the 26 districts as drought-hit.
So far Bihar has only recorded 57 per cent rainfall this monsoon, the deficit in rainfall comes as a huge blow to farm communities in the state.
Siwan, Bhojpur, Gaya, Nalanda, Jehanabad, Rohtas and Tehmur are among the drought-hit districts.
