Under-Construction Building Collapses; Four Dead, 12 Injured
An under-construction five storey building has collapsed on an adjacent hostel in Bellary, killing four and injuring 12 others with over 20 people being feared trapped, said media reports.
According to a rescued labourer, as many as 15 to 20 officials are trapped under rubble and cries for help from those trapped inside could be heard on the spot, said reports.
Among four dead, one was a 22-year-old student Rudragowda, who was staying in the student hostel, said reports.
Soon after the incident, two engineers were suspended for dereliction of duty by Bellary City Corporation, said reports.
In response to the plea by the district administration, a team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from Pune and Madras Engineering Group army centre personnel from Bangalore have been rushed to the spot for rescue operations.
Revenue Minister G Karunakara Reddy visited the spot and announced Rs one lakh compensation to the families of those killed, said reports.
