Azam helping Cong Candidate against Jaya: Says State Cong Chief

In the latest twist to SP-Azam Khan’s story, there is a report of his indirectly helping the Congress party candidate in Rampur Lok Sabha constituency, where the SP has fielded Jayaprada as its candidate.

Uttar Pradesh Congress President Rita Bahuguna Joshi said that rebel Khan was helping her party indirectly in Rampur Lok Sabha elections.

“Azam Khan is helping Congress… He is helping us indirectly,” Joshi said, while referring to the campaign launched by Khan against Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Prada, who is seeking her second term from the constituency.

However, Joshi quickly added that there was no proposal either from the Congress side or from Mohammad Azam Khan for joining her party.

In response to the question if Khan could join Congress after elections, she said, “it would be discussed later by the party high command. As of now he is in Samajwadi Party which is contesting elections against us.”

It should be noted that Joshi’s statement comes in the backdrop of Congress leaders making efforts to woo Khan after SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav ticked him off, blaming him of indulging in anti-party activities.
