Avalanche Kills Seven Army Soldiers in Kupwara

The Army rescue teams managed to evacuate eight soldiers while seven other troops were reportedly buried alive after their post was hit by an avalanche in the Shamsbari mountain range in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Tuesday.

Citing army spokesman Lt. Col. JS Brar, media reports say, an avalanche struck a counter insurgency (CI) post of the army in the Shamsbari mountain range at Baraf Choti on Tuesday morning burying 15 soldiers alive in which seven were killed while eight others were quickly rescued

Bodies of the seven soldiers buried under the snow were also recovered by the rescue teams.

The reports identified the deceased as Chander Singh, Gagdesh Kumar, Kumar Singh, Balbir Singh, Ranbir Singh while as identification of two bodies are yet to be ascertained.

Fresh snowfall last week is reported to have lead to fresh avalanches.
