Army Chief Warns of 26/11 Type Terror Strikes

Army Chief Deepak Kapoor has warned of possibility of 26/11 type of terror attacks, urging that India needs to take all steps to counter such strikes.

“We have to take all steps to prevent any Mumbai-type attacks. We cannot rule out apprehensions of such possibilities,” Kapoor told reporters in New Delhi on the sidelines of an Army function.

Responding to a query whether there were any recent terror alerts, he said, “South Asian region is infested with terror groups. Be it India, Afghanistan or Pakistan. We have to collectively battle such threats.”

With Pakistan coming under terror attacks as well in recent times, he said that both Defence Minister AK Antony and Home Minister P Chidambaram had urged to be caution against such threats.

In response to another query regarding allegations from Pakistan Army that they have recovered some Indian-made weapons from terrorists involved in recent attacks, Kapoor said that India does not intend to cause trouble inside Pakistan and that it did not support any terror group in the region.

“We want Pakistan to be stable and peaceful,” he said.
