Appeal Filed in UAE on behalf of 17 Indian Death Row Convicts

A top Indian official has said that an appeal has been filed in UAE on behalf of 17 Indian convicts on death row for killing a Pakistani national and injuring three others, PTI reported.

India’s Consular General said that the appeal was filed on Wednesday in a Sharjah Court of Appeals, report said.

Earlier, the consulate had said that a Dubai-based law firm Mohamed Salman Advocates and Legal Consultants was hired to represent Indians, said report.

Bindu Suresh Chettur, a lawyer who meet the convicts on behalf of the law firm, said that the men maintained their innocence, report said.

“I visited all of them at the jail and they signed the papers,” he was quoted as saying.

Consulate officials had met all 17 Indians earlier this week and said that they were in good health.
