Andhra HC Quashes Quota for Backward Minorities

Andhra Pradesh High Court has quashed four per cent reservation of minorities in education and the state government services, said media reports.

Announcing the ruling, the high court held the quota for minorities unsustainable and so non-implementable, said reports.

However, the court made it clear that admissions made in 2007 on the ground of present minority quota would remain valid, said reports.

It may be mentioned that the court ruling is a big jolt to the Congress government, which had brought legislation for four per cent reservation to certain backward groups among Muslims.

Challenging the bill, some individuals and organizations had argued that the reservations were unconstitutional.

The court has so far quashed the quota for Muslims three times, including this time.
