Amid Tension, Rajnath Singh To Visit Pakistan in August To Attend SAARC Meet

New Delhi: Amid rising tension with Pakistan, Home Minister Rajnath Singh will travel to Pakistan to attend the SAARC Home Ministers’ Conference on August 3 and 4, news agency ANI reported.
The home minister is likely to have bilateral meetings with his counterparts from other SAARC countries. Sources said the home minister will raise the issue of cross-border terrorism at the meeting.

The relation between the two countries is deteriorating after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani. More than 45 people have died and nearly 3,000 left injured as civilians and stone-throwing protesters clashed with security forces after Wani was shot on the night of July 8.

Pakistan criticised India over the Kashmir unrest, and the country observed a “black day” on July 20 to protest against the killings.

Also, Pakistan continuously raised the Kashmir issue with top UN officials and submitted letters to UN chief Ban Ki-moon and Security Council president after the killing of Wani.

Earlier, Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj gave a hard-hitting response to Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for his comments that he is waiting for the day Kashmir becomes a part of Pakistan.

“The whole of Jammu and Kashmir belongs to India. You will never be able to make this heaven on earth a terror hell,” she said.
