Bhopal will host the National Kayaking and Canoeing Championship this year

Bhopal: National Kayaking and Canoeing Championship will be organized in the Lower Lake of Bhopal from January 12 to 16 in which 1200 participants from 35 units of 26 state will participate. This is the 21st National Kayaking and Canoeing Championship and it is for the first time that Bhopal will host this national championship. The championship is being organised by the Madhya Pradesh Kayaking and Canoeing Association.

Urban Administration and Development Minister Babulal Gaur gave the information when he reached along with journalists and office-bearers to inspect the country’s best water sports centre developed by the Bhopal Municipal Corporation on the banks of Lower Lake.

Association’s office-bearers told Gaur that the association has so many resources that it can organize four national championships simultaneously in the water bodies of Bhopal. They also informed Gaur about the centre which was established with only one boat. Now, it has 250 boats and players from all over the country are imbibing coaching here. He informed that Indian men and women players have secured sixth place in the kayaking and canoeing matches held during the Asian Games in China.

Urban Administration and Development Minister while inspecting the waters sports centre instructed the Bhopal Municipal Corporation officers to increase the length of pathway up to Khatlapur temple and also construct a boathouse. He informed that some more nullahs will be prevented from falling into the Lower Lake with a view to saving it from pollution. For this objective, the capacity of Ginnauri-based pump-house is being enhanced.

Babulal Gaur also instructed for constructing a change-room there.
