26/11 Martyr’s Widow Releases Book, Says Her Questions Still Unanswered

Releasing a book written in search of the truth behind her husband’s death, the widow of additional police commissioner Ashok Kamte, who was killed while fighting with terrorists on November 26, 2008, said that there were still unanswered questions about the circumstances in which her husband was killed.

“The information about the death of my husband and two other police officers, Hemant Karkare and Vijay Salaskar, was known immediately but the circumstances which led to their death were not known for many months,” said Kamte’s wife Vinita.

“There were no clear answers forthcoming for simple and basic questions. In fact, today also we have received no clear answers and many questions are yet to be answered,” said Vinita after releasing her book To The Last Bullet.

“(In the book) I have tried to throw light on what exactly happened at Cama Hospital where my husband was killed,” she said.

At a function organized at hotel Taj Mahal, one of the places attacked by terrorists, eminent activist Aruna Roy and former Mumbai Police Commissioner Julio Rebeiro released the book.

She charged that her husband, for about 40 minutes after being shot by the terrorists, didn’t get any help.

“Why did the government not ask any questions about the delay? It was very unfortunate I had to get the post-mortem report through Right to Information Act,” Vinita said.
