Advani Slams PM for Remarks over Swiss Bank Issue

Firing all cylinders, NDA prime ministerial hopeful LK Advani on Monday slammed Manmohan Singh for describing his campaign to bring back black money stashed in Swiss banks as an “election stunt” and questioned if it was wrong on his part to rake up an issue on which the prime minister was “confused.”

The BJP stalwart iterated plans to bring back the black money to the tune of Rs 25 lakh crores stashed in overseas banks within 100 days of assuming power and said that the money would be used to fund development projects in the country.

“I had written to the Prime Minister on bringing back the stashed black money in Swiss banks… PM has replied that he has asked Pranab Mukherjee to follow it up…the UPA government has filed a reply of 40 pages in the Supreme Court.”

“Why is Dr Singh so confused now on the black money issue and calling it as election stunt…I cannot understand,” said Advani while addressing an election rally near Jaipur.

The blistering Advani campaign was only expected as it came in the backdrop of Manmohan Singh’s remarks at an election rally in Delhi on Sunday.

“They (BJP) have not only made this issue an election stunt but they have behaved irresponsibly on this issue,” said Singh, whose party has blamed Advani for blowing the whistle on the matter to alert depositors of some unspecified government action.

Advani also attacked the Congress over the Bofors issue and accused the grand old party of meddling in the working of the CBI.
