Achuthanandan Dismisses UDF’s Demand for Resignation
Dismissing opposition UDF’s demand for his resignation following CPM’s drubbing in by-polls for three assembly seats, Kerala chief minister VS Achuthanandan has said that it is a “usual opposition response” on such occasions.
“This is the usual opposition demand. The response of the opposition need not be always constructive,” he told reporters during his weekly briefing after the cabinet meeting.
As for the defeat of ruling CPM-led LDF is concerned, he said that the ruling alliance would take up the matter for meditation to go into what went wrong.
The CPI-M veteran defended his statement during the poll campaign that central forces deployed by the Election Commission should “confine themselves to their barracks”.
“On many issues the Election Commission did not take into account what the state government had said. In this matter also, this is what happened,” he said.
