9-Year-Old Girl Raped, Found Dead at Mumbai Police Colony
SHAME! Amid a raging debate over reservation for the fairer gender in parliament and state assemblies, the body of a nine-year-old girl was discovered on a terrace of a building in the police officer’s quarters near the Nehru Nagar police station in the Kurla (East) suburb of Mumbai on Sunday morning. An autopsy confirmed that she was raped before being killed, said media reports.
The victim had gone missing from her home in Hanuman Nagar area of the suburb on Saturday evening. She was last seen playing with her friends at around 2000 hrs.
Her father informed the Nehru Nagar police of her absence at around midnight.
According to the Times of India, Additional Commissioner of Police (East) Ritesh Kumar confirmed that the girl was raped.
“The autopsy report confirms that the girl was raped before she was killed,” he was quoted as saying.
The rape and murder is the second such incident in the Kurla (East) suburb in less than a month.
On February 10, the body of a six-year-old girl was found stuffed in a gunnybag on the staircase leading to the terrace of a housing society. The probe into the incident is yet to conclude.
