8 died after explosion at firecracker manufacturing unit at Kuruvimalai area of Kanchipuram district on Wednesday

In a horrific incident reported from Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu, at least eight people were killed and 10 others injured following a massive blast in a firecracker factory on Wednesday.

The explosion took place at firecracker manufacturing unit at Kuruvimalai area of Kanchipuram district on Wednesday8. Two fire tenders and 10 ambulances were rushed to the site. Among the dead are three women.

Injured people have been rushed to the government hospital. A total of 25 people were working in the cracker unit when the blast took place.

Kancheepuram District Magistrate M Aarthi, and DIG P Pakalavan and other senior police officials visited the Kanchipuram government hospital to take updates from doctors about injured people.

Several animals have also been killed due to the impact of the massive blast.

Meanwhile, police investigation has been initiated to find the exact cause of the fire. Preliminary investigation reveals that friction between chemicals and temperature change may have caused the blast.

Meanwhile, BJP state president Annamalai tweeted condolences on the death of workers.

“It’s very sad to see that 8 people died in the cracker industry fire. I extend condolences on behalf of BJP. Tamil Nadu Government should provide proper treatment to the injured and ensure no such accidents happen in future,” Annamalai tweeted.

District Collector M Aarthi, Deputy Inspector General P Pakalavan and Police Superintendent M Sudhakar also reached the spot to oversee the rescue operations. Probe is on to determine the cause of the explosion in the unit which is located at Kuruvimalai village, in Kancheepuram district ANI reported. The unit has a valid licence to manufacture the crackers, said officials.
