62% People Cast Ballot in Last Phase
In the last phase of polling, an estimated 62 percent of voters exercised their franchise, thus winding up the voting for the general elections of the largest democracy of the world.
In the last phase, around 11 crore voters were eligible for voting in 86 seats spread across 9 states and two union territories, including 39 seats in Tamil Nadu, a key state which recorded a turn out of 60-62 percent. In Pondichery, 75 percent turnout was recorded.
Around fifty two percent of the voters turned out in the 14 constituencies of Uttar Pradesh spread across Rohilkhand region and western part of the state which put to test the Muslim-Yadav vote bank of Samajwadi Party.
In West Bengal, 70 per cent turnout was recorded in the 11 constituencies which went to poll on Wednesday.
Around 62 per cent polling was reported in the nine Lok Sabha seats in Punjab while 42 per cent voting was recorded in Baramulla and ladakh parliamentary constituencies of Kashmir. Four seats of Himachal Pradesh recorded 57 percent turn out
Chief Election Commssioner Navin Chawla informed media persons that a total of 59-60 percent out of 714 million voters turned out for voting in the fifth phase.
