3000 Orissa Villagers Moved Ahead of Interceptor Missile Test

Some 3,000 people have been shifted as authorities vacated half-a-dozen villages near a defence base in Orissa ahead of a planned interceptor missile test scheduled for Sunday, say media reports citing a senior police official.

The residents have been moved to temporary camps even as security personnel maintain a strict vigil over the area, preventing the entry of any unauthorized persons.

According to media reports, the Advanced Air Defence missile (AAD) will be fired from the Wheeler Island off Dhamra coast in Bhadrak district.

The AAD will destroy an incoming missile fired from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur on sea in Balasore district.

‘Officials have shifted about 3,000 people living within 2 km radius of the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur to temporary camps,’ Balasore district Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar was quoted as saying by IANS.
