CSK defeats DC with ease

The result was never in doubt the moment CSK made those crucial breakthroughs in the powerplay. DC needed something special from Rossouw and it didn’t happen. They also didn’t help their own cause by not promoting Axar Patel. Eventually, they fall short by 27 runs. CSK remain second now, just behind Gujarat Titans. DC are now slowly edging closer to a league-stage exit. They can only get to 14 points even if they win their remaining games now.

Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja’s late blows alongwith Shivam Dube’s innings helped Chennai Super Kings (CSK) recover to a score of 167/8 in their 20 overs. The pitch was slow because of which CSK had their troubles early on and Delhi Capitals seem to have suffered the same fate. Except that unlike CSK, DC never really recovered and ended up losing the match by 27 runs. They lost David Warner and Phil Salt early while Mitchell Marsh fell after a mix-up with Manish Pandey. Pandey and the dangerous Rilee Rossouw tried building something but they ended up putting together a sluggish partnership that shot up the required rate for DC. Pandey eventually fell for 27 off 29 balls while Rossouw fell after scoring 35 off 37. Their partnership took up 59 balls and they scored only as many runs. DC ended up being limited to a score of 140/8 and remain rooted to the bottom of the table. Earlier, CSK were hobbling at 77/4 in 11 overs in a pitch that seemed to become increasingly sluggish as the innings wore on. Dhoni smashed 20 runs in nine balls in a 38-run stand with Jadeja that came in just 18 balls for the seventh wicket.

Before that, Dube scored 25 runs in 12 balls after Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Lalit Yadav spun a web around the CSK top order. Mitchell Marsh bowled a brilliant final over, giving away just seven runs and taking two wickets to end with figures of 3/18.
